The 5 Emails I Love Waking Up To

BLDG 25

The first thing I do when I wake up is check my email. After going through and deleting the junk, I like to take a few minutes to read the emails I actually subscribe to- it's like having mini newspapers delivered to me while I'm still in bed. Their purposes range from informative to inspirational, and I wanted to share because I think you might enjoy them too! 1. BLDG 25 Anyone who knows me knows just how obsessed I am with the brand Free People. So naturally, when I discovered their blog, BLDG 25, I was quick to sign up for their email newsletter. I Quit Washing My Hair: Briogeo Co-Wash Review

CoWash Hair

A few months ago, I decided to stop washing my hair. That may sound gross, but it's not- I just stopped using the classic shampoo conditioner combo and opted for a co-wash alternative. Harsh detergents and heavy silicones were wrecking my hair, so an all natural co-wash seemed liked the perfect substitute. (Read about my first product review of New Wash here.) The next product that I'll be reviewing is Briogeo Be Gentle, Be Kind™ Avocado + Quinoa Co-Wash. Quite the name, right? I was drawn to it because it claims to be free of silicones, gluten, artificial fragrances, and artificial dyes. It's also a cruelty-free, vegan-friendly product that contains 91 percent naturally-derived ingredients. Plus, it was less expensive than New Wash, at $41.00 for a 475 ml bottle.     First Impression / Use…

Inspired By: Fashion Magazine Covers

I love magazines. I always have and I always will. I remember reading Cosmo Girl when I was 8, later graduating to Cosmo by 14. I then fell in love with Vogue, but after some time I developed a complete obsession with Porter. I'm drawn to the photographs, but it's the well-written articles that keep me interested. I tried switching to an e-reader once, but it's just not the same- I don't feel nearly as glamourous reading a Next Issue version as I sunbathe. I once asked my mom why the women (and sometimes men) in these magazines wore such vibrant outfits (I'm pretty sure I used the word crazy, not vibrant). She explained that these women (and men) usually didn't wear the outfits in public and that their purpose was to inspire people. I remember…

Skating the Forest Trail in Lac-des-Loups, Quebec

Yesterday, a group of friends and I had plans to go skate the rumored forest trail in Quebec. We searched Google for directions, but couldn't find any definite ones, so we set out towards Gatineau Park hoping to see a sign or two that would lead us in the right direction. We ended up getting a little lost, but it was so worth it! Located about an hour North of Ottawa, the trail itself is 3km long and is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. (weather dependant). It's $12 for an adult day pass, and you definitely need to dress warmly! We went on a beautiful sunny day, but as soon as the sun disappeared behind the clouds, we had to warm up by the wood fire.   (It was so magical skating under…

Happiness Secrets – Stop Taking It Personally

Happiness Secrets

The "Happiness Secrets" series will focus on small mentality changes that I've started to implement into my own life, that I've found make me an overall happier person. “It is not about controlling your thoughts, it is about guiding your thoughts more in the direction you are wanting to go in.” - Abraham-Hicks Why do we take things personally? It's really a combination of reasons, one of them being low self-esteem: people with low self-esteem will genuinely believe that someone's actions are a personal attack against them. For example; Friend A calls Friend B. Friend B doesn't answer because they're busy in a lunch/at work etc. Friend A is upset because they don't feel like they're important, and that Friend B must also share that belief. Friend A continues to believe these negative thoughts, while Friend…
