Spotlight On Spot Treatments

I’m human, therefore I suffer from skin imperfections (which is putting it really delicately because some mornings I wake up with actual volcanos on my face that make me want to disappear under the covers forever). It’s taken forever for me to find products I love, but I’ve finally created a system that has kept my skin calm and I want to share it with you guys!

Skin Type: Dry/Combination

Night Before:

I use coconut oil to remove makeup and wash my face before applying any products! It’s naturally antibacterial and antifungal, and I find it doesn’t clog my pores.

Step 1: Burt’s Bee’s Natural Acne Solutions Targeted Spot Treatment

I love this product because it’s packed with soothing ingredients (tea tree, calendula, yarrow and parsley extracts) as well as tough ingredients (naturally occurring salicylic acid from willow bark) that are clinically proven to reduce the problem in 48 hours. I use about 4 drops on a little cotton pad and swipe over the areas that need it. I got mine from Rexall, but you can get it online here.

Step 2: Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Face Cream with Rosehip and Vitamin E

You can use this product morning and night, but I choose to use it at night. I started using it about a month ago and I doubt I’ll ever stop buying it. It contains 100% pure Australian tea tree oil, macadamia oil and shea butter, but still maintains a lightweight texture. These natural ingredients are great for soothing and hydrating your skin, and I find it doesn’t clog my pores or make me look oily. I’m dying to try the rest of their brand! Find this product here.

Step 3: Mario Badescu Skin Care Drying Lotion

I know, I know- the product that has been mentioned by every beauty blogger out there. But you know why everyone loves it? Because it works. Just remember, don’t shake the bottle- simply dip your q-tip into the pink solution at the bottom and the clear liquid will adhere to that. Dab over spots to see a magical overnight transformation. Get it here.

Step 4: Wash your face in the morning.

I know a lot of people that forget this step. You’re tired, you’re hungry- I get it, but the germs from your pillow are real, and it feels really nice to start your day with fresh, clean skin. Use a gentle cleanser such as this one for all skin types.

Step 5: Avoid dairy.

This informative article from Ann Marie Gianni explains the science behind it. Having the occasional piece of cheese is fine, but try subbing out regular dairy habits (such as cream in your coffee) for alternatives (ie: almond milk, soy milk or my personal favourite, Silk Vanilla Almond Creamer). Ice cream can be switched for sherbert, and the tastiest cheese alternative (in my opinion) is Chao slices in Original and Tomato Cayenne (best grilled cheese of my life).

Your skin will thrive on routine, and if you find one that works, I suggest practicing it religiously. Your future self will be so grateful, and you will avoid a lot of future stress because of it!
