Skating the Forest Trail in Lac-des-Loups, Quebec

Yesterday, a group of friends and I had plans to go skate the rumored forest trail in Quebec. We searched Google for directions, but couldn’t find any definite ones, so we set out towards Gatineau Park hoping to see a sign or two that would lead us in the right direction. We ended up getting a little lost, but it was so worth it!

Located about an hour North of Ottawa, the trail itself is 3km long and is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. (weather dependant). It’s $12 for an adult day pass, and you definitely need to dress warmly! We went on a beautiful sunny day, but as soon as the sun disappeared behind the clouds, we had to warm up by the wood fire.

(It was so magical skating under the trees, and the ice was so smooth despite a recent ice storm.)

(Tip for any fellow photographers: It’s a great spot for some romantic photos!)

The main lodge is cozy and warm, perfect for enjoying a packed lunch. Or if you have time, stop in one of the charming little towns as you drive back towards Ottawa at one of the many Ma and Pop restaurants. There’s even a cat café along the route that has wonderful cappuccinos called Café Chat Sibérian!

The address to the park is: Patinage en forêt, Montée Beausoleil, Lac-des-Loups, QC

Let me know if you decide to go! I’d love to hear about your experience!

It was so fun! Can you believe I only saw one other lady wearing figure skates? She reminded me of Grandmère! xx

Thanks for sharing, Sophia! Have been wanting to visit this trail but didn’t know too much information about it other than the fact that it existed. Will definitely be making the trip this winter! Hope you’re enjoying living in Ottawa 🙂

      Hi Dean!

Unfortunately, there isn’t any public transport that could get you out there- my suggestion would be to rent a car for the day! Safe travels!
